Boojee Tax Manual

AI-powered tax preparation for your 2024 return. Connect your banks, upload your documents, let the AI categorize and calculate, then download IRS-ready PDF forms to file yourself.

Overview

Boojee Tax prepares a complete 2024 federal return plus returns for 18 income-tax states. It connects to your bank accounts through Plaid (read-only), extracts fields from uploaded W-2s and 1099s via OCR, categorizes every transaction to the correct IRS schedule line, and generates completed, IRS-ready PDF forms.

Important honesty note: Boojee Tax does not e-file directly to the IRS — it has no EFIN. It generates finished PDF forms (1040, Schedule C, Schedule SE, etc.) that you upload yourself to IRS Free File Fillable Forms, a free IRS-operated portal. That upload takes roughly 10 minutes. The documents are AI-generated and have not been reviewed by a licensed CPA; for complex situations, consult a CPA before filing.

Getting Started

  1. Open Boojee Tax and start with the free tier — no credit card required.
  2. Connect your checking, savings, and investment accounts through Plaid (read-only; the tool can never move money or see full account numbers).
  3. Upload your W-2s, 1099s, and brokerage statements. OCR extracts the fields automatically.
  4. Let the AI categorize transactions and calculate your forms, then review the summary.
  5. Download your completed IRS-ready PDFs and upload them to IRS Free File Fillable Forms.

Features & How-To

Refund estimator

Enter filing status, wages, self-employment income, investment income, withholding, itemized deductions, and qualifying children to see an estimated federal refund or balance due in about 60 seconds. This is an estimate using 2024 brackets — not a filed return.

Bank connect & document OCR

Link accounts via Plaid and drag in tax documents. Supported inputs include W-2, 1099-NEC, 1099-DIV, 1099-B, 1099-INT.

AI categorization & deduction finder

Every transaction is mapped to the correct schedule line, deductions are surfaced automatically, and mixed personal/business spend is flagged for your review. The deduction finder previews categories the AI scans for — business expenses, home office & utilities, vehicle/travel, retirement contributions, and more.

What's covered

Federal 1040, Schedule C (self-employment), Schedule SE, Schedule D (capital gains), 1099-NEC income, interest & dividends, business deductions, and next-year quarterly estimate projections.

State coverage

18 income-tax states are supported: AZ, CA, CO, GA, IL, IN, MA, MD, MI, MN, MO, NC, NJ, NY, OH, PA, VA, WI. Residents of the 9 no-income-tax states (TX, FL, WA, NV, WY, SD, AK, NH, TN) only need the federal return, which is fully supported free.

Download & file

Review your summary, download the completed PDFs, and upload them to IRS Free File Fillable Forms yourself.

FAQ

Does Boojee Tax e-file directly to the IRS?

No — it has no IRS EFIN, so it does not submit your return directly. It generates completed IRS-ready PDF forms that you upload yourself to IRS Free File Fillable Forms, a free IRS-operated portal. The upload takes about 10 minutes. Direct e-file is on the roadmap once an EFIN is obtained.

Is my banking data safe?

Accounts connect via Plaid with read-only access tokens. Boojee Tax receives transaction history only — it cannot initiate transfers, see full account numbers, or move money.

Which states are supported?

18 income-tax states: AZ, CA, CO, GA, IL, IN, MA, MD, MI, MN, MO, NC, NJ, NY, OH, PA, VA, WI. The 9 no-income-tax states only need a federal return.

Does the free tier include a state return?

No. The free tier covers your complete federal return. State returns are in the Pro tier ($58/year).

What about crypto, rental income, or foreign accounts?

Crypto disposals are handled via Schedule D. Rental income (Schedule E), FBAR/FATCA for foreign accounts, and multi-state non-resident returns are not yet supported — consult a CPA for those.

Are the documents CPA-reviewed?

No. Documents are AI-generated. The format is IRS-accepted, but accuracy depends on your input. For complex situations, have a CPA review before filing.
